What is Contouring?

You've probably heard of it, but you probably don't know what it is exactly.  Contouring is the fashion makeup of the VIPs, and allows you to sculpt the face through a perfect combination of light and shadow. With good contouring, you can make a wide face look thinner and cheekbones look much more prominent. What makes Contouring so much more special is that it can optimize any part of your face, such as your cheeks, nose, jaw, or forehead. To apply it, you only have to take into account three basic rules: you must apply the lightest tone in the areas you want to highlight, the dark one to which you want to hide and, to finish, you must blend all the tones to perfection.

Products Needed for Contouring

Do you want to use the contouring technique but don't know which are the ideal and recommended products? Below we make a selection of the best valued brands and products:

Contouring according to the type of face

Contouring is a technique that adapts to the shape of your face. Therefore, it will be applied differently and different shades will be used depending on the type of face you have:

Knowing the Contouring makeup technique is essential to highlight any part of your face, be it cheeks, eyes, lips, forehead, nose ... any facial area can be optimized with this curious technique.

Before entering each type of face, you should know that the Contouring makeup technique  is based on three immovable principles: first, we will apply the lightest tone in the areas that we want to highlight; second, we will use the dark tone to hide the areas we want and, finally, we have to thoroughly blur the tones that we have used since this is the key to obtaining a natural finish.

We are now going to break down the Contouring according to the type of face.

Long face. They stand out for being twice as long as they are wide. To minimize that difference as much as possible, we apply the light shade under your eyes in the shape of an inverted triangle. Next, we will use the dark shade along the growth line of the hair, another horizontal line on the chin and above the side line of the jaw.

Rectangular face. Your face is rectangular in shape if it is as long as it is wide and your jaw is very marked. The trick this time is to mark the cheekbones and hide the jaws, using the dark tone around the jawline and lower the intensity slightly towards the temples, also under the cheekbones with a strong line and with another in the line of the jaw. With the light tone we draw a circle in the center of the chin and an inverted triangle under your eyes.

Round face. We begin by balancing your features with a vertical line with the dark tone that passes through the sides of your forehead, the temples, the cheekbones and ends in the nasolabial folds the wrinkles on each side of the nose. Next, we draw a circle in the center of your forehead, an inverted triangle under your eyes, and an oval lying in the center of your chin. Blend it with art.

Diamond face. If your hair growth line is narrower than the distance between cheekbones and your chin is slightly pointed. To harmonize the features, we apply the light shade in the center of the forehead and chin, also, under your eyes in the form of an inverted triangle. Next, mark your cheekbones with the dark tone with a stroke under the cheeks. To finish, blend with precision.

Triangular face. If your hair growth line is wider than the jaw area, round it with a dark tone line at the top of the forehead and draw a circle in the center of the chin and above the jaw.

As you can see, the result can be spectacular as long as you know what type of Contouring to do or what Contouring products to use, as well as being able to use Contouring brushes. If you liked it, have any questions or suggestions, let us know in the comments.

See you soon!
